Seigneurs d'Aiguilhe 2006 - Waitrose

In search of a bottle or two of the fabulous 2005 Seigneurs d'Aiguilhe, I repaired this afternoon to my local Waitrose, only to find that the bastards had run out of this most excellent and fabulous booze. However, a new rude boy had arrived in town, the 2006. So I purchased a bottle and began to consume it immediately.

I poured a glass and straight away I got this weird excessively tart vibe - like apple juice or bad chianti...most disconcerting. I immediately phoned Dame Edna Beverage to ask for her advice, and she told me to give it an hour of airtime, which I did. And this did eventually settle down to develop understated aromas of black cherry and cedar whilst the palate has some creamy vanilla and blackcurrant. But is it really bordeaux? I might mistake it for a cheap Italian....and compared to the '05 (which really is bordeaux) this is a relatively simple and diluted wine though it does put on weight with air. Not quite a steal at £9.49 - better value elsewhere I say!

Seigneurs d'Aiguilhe 2006 6/10 £9.49, Waitrose.
