Validivieso Malbec 2008 Waitrose £4.69

Drunk after the rather expensive Waitrose St Joseph, and in contrast, a little oaky and unrefined. (actually, oaky maybe, but perhaps this wine is very close in the refinement stakes...) But that is a mere matter of calibration my friends. In isolation, all of that disappears. Loads of vanilla, loads of blackcurrant, loads of juicy fun at a cheap price. That is what this supermarket vin par excellence is all about.

Some wines you pay £10 for and you understand why they were £10, but you don;t like them.
Some wines you pay £5 for and they are just so right you think they are better than the £10 wine, but you can't really justify it objectively.

Anyway - enough bullshit.

If you want to drink this wine with food it has good acidity, the fruit is on the red end spectrum but concentrated, it is well balanced, it is hardly spectacular but is an extremely nice wine. And it is less than £5. i will have to give it a 6-7. But if you want a nice sub-£5-er with some balls, this may just be your man.

As I hold the wine up to the light, I detect a red-blush tint on the edge of the glass. 'This is the red end,' I rightly and royally proclaim.

Validivieso Malbec 2008 Waitrose. 6-7. £4.69. I like it.
