Lime Tree Cabernet SE Australia 2008 - The Co-op

Absolutely gorgeous nose - don't quite know where to place it. It has the refreshing characteristics of menthol but I am reluctant to use menthol as a descriptor - and I need to qualify it by saying by typical South East Oz supermarket standards, this is subtle. I also get red fruit, kiwi fruit and raspberry in there. Now I'm sounding like Oz Clarke. Please shoot me.

A dark fruit quality on the palate (uniquely, I would describe the predominant fruit flavour as fig) - this is concentrated without being in any way overblown.

OK - I admit this is not complex, but really pure and balanced - creaminess balanced by a tangy acidity.

Then Gordon tells me he payed £4.80 for it. I think it's worth nearly twice that.

This is quite unlike anything else I've tasted - so you get a beautiful unusual (but not eccentric) wine for less than £5. Can't guarantee this will be your cup of tea, but trying this is a no-brainer.
