The merlot thankfully has the same ethos. Big, thick fruity with ample class to tick most boxes fro under a tenner. Breathing for an extended period doesnt do it any favours, but as an £8 bottle of plonk to glug straight away, its hard to beat.
Best described as a silky rich and fruity experience, it is significantly behind the montes alpha cab sauv in terms of class, but beats the wolf blass shiraz/cab sauvs for an everyday glugger.
It ticks the boxes for under a tenner in a satisfying way, but doesnt rewrite the rule books. But there is nothing new worldy to beat it at £8.
Graeme here - 27th July 2010 - this is a very nice wine, without the backbone of yer average Chilean cabernet, but with all the jamminess. Classy and comes into its own with food. But you have to be the kind of drinker who enjoys those jammy Chilean flavours.... I paid £11 at the Co-op, not such a bargain but still OK... gonna give it 7.5/10, would buy this again for the right occasion, like eating tex-mex shit.
