Botham Merrill Willis McLaren Vale/Coonawarra Cabernet 2005

A very nice wine, and not too over the top by average Aussie supermarket blockbuster standards. Its cooler climate Coonawarra component perhaps taming the rampant excess and violence that is its McLaren Vale counterpart.... Almost medium-bodied in fact, relatively speaking of course.

A palate impression of tea and blackcurrant with a slightly bitter finish which is a little offputting. This has class, but it somehow...I don't know...lacks personality. A kind-of designer wine then, from a team which used to kick some Aussie ass, and now includes some Aussie ass. Howzat!?

Botham Merrill Willis McLaren Vale/Coonawarra Cabernet 2005 Tesco £9.69. 7/10
