Apologies if certain detail in my last review, especially the Mercedes stuff, is difficult to understand. I wrote it, of course, whilst drunk. Anyway, on to the Monsori...
'This bottle contains 4.3 glasses' proclaims the back label. I was looking forward to drinking them.
This wine is from a very great vintage in Northern Italy. It is reduced from 17 quid something to 12.99, so I have splashed out tonight.
On opening, what I have is the epitome of the lowest common denominator style of Barolo. This one might almost be watered down generic Barbera... Nothing offensive, just not that inspiring.
After two hours - I do have to say that the last glass seems a lot better than the first. Now that is either because it is better, or because I am pissed. Either way, not sure I would want to pay the tariff for this wine (and I do really like Piedmont.)
If you do try this, at least open a few hours before serving...
Monsori Barolo 2004. 6.5-7.5/10 Waitrose £12.99 (ouch!) on offer until May 17th.
