La Piuma 2007 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo - Waitrose

Lazy I know, but I agree with Waitrose on this one:

A really delicious, velvety red wine made from the Montepulciano grape.
La Piuma is full-bodied but in no way heavy, seriously ripe, but in no way sweet. It has a softness to it which makes it a brilliant party wine....

They then go on to say:

More than 5 cases / 60 bottles in stock

They will need it, because that is probably how much I will drink before the year is out

Now this one has the flavour profile one would expect, but has a much thicker texture than your average Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. As if someone had blended in a bit of Barossa Shiraz in fact. Velvety is the key word, not what you normally expect from this appellation, but definitely happening with this wine, and it works. So if you want uber-classic Montepulciano and think terroirists have the right to rant about even five quid wines, tough shit. Look elsewhere, and get a life. This is a billiant wine if you want an Italian wine with some bollocks, it works really well with pizza.
